High tech solution to a non-existent problem

I recently got a new phone, a Sprint PPC-6700, aka HTC Apache.
Here are a couple links to it (I’ll leave the reviews to others):

A quick flyby of the phone - It is Windows Mobile version 5 powered, is on the Sprint EVDO Rev 0 network, basically it is a connected internet device as well as being a phone. While still EVDO rev 0 (not A), it is amazingly fast.

I’ve installed the following programs:

Microsoft LiveSearch - very cool!

Google Maps - equally very cool, just different!

Opera Mobile - a real browser for the small format device, very nice!
and a couple other utility apps ..

I also have it configured to work as a bluetooth modem for my MacBook Pro. Using www.dslreports.com/stest, I get approx 400k downloads and about 100k uploads. For perspective, that is better than my first wired DSL connection!

My “solution” to a non-existent problem was this:

I went for a walk Saturday morning and wanted to listen to the local PBS station. Instead of finding a regular FM radio, I used the phone to surf to their website, and selected the streaming feed. That launched Windows Media player, played the intro video commercial, then streamed the program.

I walked for an hour and never had a problem with the feed, just like listening to the radio with the exception of the audio compression on the feed.

A multimillion dollar solution (counting the infrastructure) to not having a FM radio handy! It’s amazing what you can do now..
