Mac Pro and Parallels RC2
At the office I have a Mac Pro that is set up for triple boot - OS X, Windows XP and Server 2003. I use Parallels off and on but mostly boot into Windows XP that I have installed on a pata drive hooked to the same cable as the DVD drive.
When the more recent Parallels beta code progressed to the point of being able to run from an already installed Boot Camp physical disk, I was very interested. I installed RC version 3150 today and instead of getting an error trying to access my Boot Camp volume, I received a helpful error message saying I needed to read the directions.
After reviewing the directions, I ended up searching the forums.parallels.com site for anything related to “non-standard” Boot Camp installs (mine is dual boot across two different physical disks). This is the link you need:
Read this for directions on Parallels/Boot Camp interaction
I edited the file following the above directions and spent the day running my normal Windows XP install under Mac OS X using Parallels. So while I was doing my regular job, I was able to use my normal tools and at the same time I was building an iDVD movie disk to test with a laptop that needed to play DVDs, and on my second monitor I was watching the news via my Miglia TVMiniHD gizmo.
It is amazing what you can do with a computer now!
