The other day I went through Costco and saw they had a turntable with a USB port on it. It seemed either like a great idea or an anachronism - having an analog device with a digital connection on it. I wasn’t paying attention enough to get which model it was (there is an ION turntable on the Costco website), it did however prod me into putting my old Thorens TD166MkII back together and as I type this I’m listening to Toto IV on vinyl via my Sennheiser HD580 headphones (I couldn’t find the the quarter inch adapter for my Etymotics).
There is something reassuring about watching the record go round and round with great music pouring out of the turntable.
For you audiophile types, it has the stock arm (the one with the hanging weight on the fishing line) playing through a Grado Prestige Green (age uncertain), and the phono section of a Yamaha RX-V492, and I can say that it still kicks ass!
